Guggenheim Abu Dhabi opens to the public on Friday 11 December 2026, with general admission at Dh70, according to the Department of Culture and Tourism and press reports.
On 29 October 2026 we read the official culture page and four press reports. The museum’s own booking site was blocked for us by a security check, so the prices come from reports dated 18 to 22 September.
Three things are still open: the opening hours, the opening exhibitions and the exact gallery count. We mark each gap where it matters.

Ticket prices: who pays full price, less or nothing
The National reported on 18 September that Dh70 is the standard adult price. Everyone else falls into a free or reduced group, and the table sets out each one.
| Group | Price | Condition reported |
|---|---|---|
| Adults | Dh70 | Book on the museum’s website |
| Under 18 | Free | Children aged 12 and under must be with an adult at all times |
| Aged 60 and above, UAE citizens and residents | Free | No extra condition in the reports |
| People of determination | Free | A free companion ticket is available at checkout |
| UAE university students | Free | Proof of ID, with tickets collected at the desk on the day |
| UAE-employed educators, UAE military, Homat Al Watan | Dh35 | Proof of eligibility, with tickets collected on the day |
| Fazaa and Esaad cardholders | Dh50 | Proof of eligibility, with tickets collected on the day |
Khaleej Times mentions reduced rates for eligible groups without naming them, so The National’s list is the fuller one. The reported rates mean a Fazaa or Esaad card saves you Dh20, and an educator’s rate saves Dh35.

On the reported prices, two adults with children under 18 pay Dh140 in total by our sums. A UAE-employed teacher with a partner who does not qualify is reported to owe Dh105 in total, and every visitor still needs a booking.
What has not been confirmed yet
The reports we read leave four gaps: the opening hours, the opening exhibitions, any timed-entry rule and the final gallery count. No source we could open confirms any of them.
- Opening hours and closing days: none of the reports gives them, and the booking site was the one source we could not open.
- Opening exhibitions: The National reported on 28 July that details would come “in the coming months”, and Gulf News says no list of works has been released.
- Timed entry or visitor limits: none of the reports we read mentions either.
- The final gallery count, which the next section sets out.
Third-party listings may already show hours. Confirm them on the museum’s website before you plan a day around them.
Where the reports disagree
| Item | What the outlets report |
|---|---|
| Galleries | 28 in Khaleej Times and Gulf News, 30 in The National |
| Collection size | Over 600 works in earlier official statements, above 970 works in more recent accounts, per Gulf News |
| Cost | Around $1 billion reported, with no official total published, per Gulf News |
We cannot tell which gallery figure is right, so we give both. The museum’s own count should settle it once the site is readable.
The building and what you will see
Frank Gehry, whom the culture page calls the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect, designed the building. It covers 80,000 square metres, with 11,600 square metres of indoor gallery space and 23,000 square metres outdoors, according to The National.
Ten sculptural cones rise across the site, up to 88 metres high. Nine are clad in stainless steel mesh and one in onyx and glass, and The National says they provide shade and natural ventilation.

Galleries are grouped by theme rather than date. Gulf News lists five: Abstractions, Popular Culture, Land, Language and Storytelling.
The collection runs from the 1960s to the present. Pollock, Rothko, Warhol and Basquiat are among the names announced. DCT chairman Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak told The National they will hang beside artists from the Arab world, Africa and Asia.
Not everyone is sold on the architect. A February thread on the building in r/Architects drew 112 upvotes, and one reply took aim at the branding.
“I hope they don’t keep using his name for new projects after his passing like they did with Hadid.”
– r/Architects, February 2026 (71 upvotes)
That is one commenter’s view of a name, not a review of a museum that has not yet opened.
Planning your visit around the opening
Saadiyat Cultural District already holds Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, according to The National. Our guides to the Natural History Museum and teamLab Phenomena cover two of them.
Gulf News puts the drive from Dubai at roughly 90 minutes by road. Allow for that before you pick a date.
Other dates cluster nearby. Frieze Abu Dhabi runs 19 to 22 November, about three weeks before the opening. School winter break starts on Monday 14 December, three days after it, and our UAE school winter break guide has the dates for families.
