The UAE school winter break 2026 runs from Monday 14 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, with classes resuming on Monday 4 January, according to the Ministry of Education’s announcement of 23 February 2026.
On 28 October 2026 we read that release, the ministry’s own guide page and the Dubai private school calendar from KHDA, the emirate’s private school regulator. All three agree on the start and the reopening day. They differ on the end date.
The gap comes down to how the weekend is counted. The calendar also leaves some schools out, and the break overlaps a busy festival season.

Why the official pages show 1 January and 3 January
The ministry’s news release ends the break on Sunday 3 January, while its guide page ends it on Friday 1 January. Both put the return to class on Monday 4 January, so the difference is only whether the weekend is counted.
By our count, 1 January 2027 is a Friday, and 2 and 3 January fall on the weekend. The guide page does the same with the spring break, ending it on 9 April where the release counts to 11 April.
We read this as weekdays against calendar days, not a clash. Monday 4 January is the date that matters. The u.ae public holidays list also names 1 January as New Year’s Day.
Dubai private schools: what KHDA says
KHDA shows the same break for both Dubai calendars. April-start and September-start schools begin the winter break on 14 December 2026 and resume on 4 January 2027, according to its calendar page, last updated on 1 May 2026.
KHDA lists the October mid-term break only for schools on the Ministry curriculum. Winter carries no such split, and the September-start entry reads “All schools”.

By our count from the two KHDA entries, September-start families lose a week: 28 days last year against 21 days this year. April-start schools keep three weeks.
Which schools the calendar does not cover
The ministry says the new calendar does not apply to private schools following alternative curricula, such as Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani. The release gives no winter dates for them, so confirm with the school before you book.
A parent raised the point on r/dubai when an early spring break was announced in March.

That question concerned a different break, and we found no official winter dates for those schools.
Dates can change, so leave room
Winter dates have been public for about eight months, since the ministry published this calendar on 23 February 2026. Authorities have still moved breaks at short notice. The March thread above carried the headline “UAE announces early spring break for schools, universities”.
Late announcements also cost parents money. A commenter on an April thread about the Eid Al Adha mid-term break described the problem.

Both rows come from the same ministry release, which covers three years. After this winter, the next break is the spring break, from 5 to 11 April 2027. The school year ends on 2 July 2027.
