For a UAE overstay fine check, the UAE government portal points to two official services: the fines inquiry run by GDRFA Dubai and the payment service run by the federal authority, ICP. ICP lists the fine at AED 50 for each day past the permitted stay.
On 17 October 2026 we opened both services, the GDRFA collection page and the u.ae pages that link to them. We entered no passport or ID number. We also compared the rival guides that rank, and they disagree on grace periods, fine rates and which system holds your file. This is general information, not legal or immigration advice.
| Service | What it does | What it asks for | Listed cost | Our check, 17 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GDRFA Dubai, fines inquiry | Looks up fines on a file | Search type, file type, place of issue, the matching number, date of birth, gender, security check | None shown on the page | Form opened, nothing submitted |
| ICP, payment of visa or residence violation fine | Takes payment of the fine | A UAE Pass login | AED 50 per day; AED 100 smart services fee | Service page read, login not tried |
| GDRFA Dubai, fine collection | Collects the fine in person or digitally | An application at a service centre | No service fee, only the fine | Page read, 48 hours listed |
UAE overstay fine check: the official routes
The u.ae visa fees page, updated on 13 July 2026, says there is a fine on overstaying. Three links follow: a fines check, ICP’s payment service and GDRFA Dubai’s collection service.
The GDRFA fines inquiry is the lookup. Its opening view offers four search types: file number, UDB number, Emirates ID and passport number. You then pick resident or permit as the file type and choose the place of issue. All seven emirates are listed, from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah. A date of birth, a gender and a security check complete the form.
For payment, ICP’s violation fine service runs on the smart services website, around the clock, behind a UAE Pass login. Applicants submit the application, review the retrieved data and complete the payment. The terms add a condition: after the fines are paid, the status must be adjusted or the person must leave the UAE.
GDRFA’s collection page lists no service fee beyond the fine itself. Expected completion is 48 hours. Amer service centres and the Hatta land port are named.
What the fine costs
ICP’s fee list charges AED 50 per day once the permitted stay ends, or once an entry visa, residence permit, exit permit or newborn registration is cancelled or expires. A separate AED 100 smart services fee is listed.
The u.ae page on residence visa provisions, updated on 28 September 2026, says visit, tourist and residence overstays all stand at AED 50 a day. For residents it says that figure replaced AED 25. Twelve counted days at that rate add up to AED 600 in fines, before any service fee.
Residents get flexible grace periods of up to six months after a permit is cancelled or expires, the same page says, depending on category. No table of categories appears. Visitors are not mentioned.
Where rival guides disagree
The guides near the top of this search differ from one another, and from the official pages, on points that change what you pay and where you look.
- Grace period: qsm.ae says up to 10 days for most visa types. bnw.ae says 30 days on residence visas and none for tourist visas. egsh.ae sets out a table by category, from none for visit visas to up to 180 days for a Golden Visa.
- Resident rate: dubaisouthbh.com still gives AED 25 a day for residence holders. The u.ae page says that rate was replaced.
- Which system holds the file: dubaivisitorvisa.com says GDRFA covers Dubai files and ICP covers the other emirates, and it reads the first three digits of the file number as the emirate. The GDRFA form lists all seven emirates, and u.ae does not split the services by emirate. We did not test either claim.
- Nationality: dubaivisitorvisa.com tells you to select a nationality on the GDRFA form. We saw no such box in the opening view.
- Exit permit: egsh.ae says more than 30 days of penalties also needs an exit permit at AED 250 to 300. We found no official page that states it.
Treat u.ae and ICP as the baseline. Every other figure here is a claim to test before you rely on it.
The 2026 relief and what came after
In March 2026 ICP exempted people who could not leave because of airspace closures or suspended flights from fines, counting from 28 February. On 10 June it gave the same group a final 30-day grace period, which ran to 9 July 2026.
The Dubai Government page that relays the WAM report says those covered needed to take no extra step. The exceptional circumstances had ended, it adds. After 9 July the page is silent. The relief applied to that group only, not to ordinary overstays. Our tourist visa extension guide sets the same relief beside the extension limits.
Settle the fine before you fly
ICP’s terms put payment first and the exit or status change second. Pay, then fix the status or leave. A fine is also a separate matter from a travel ban, which our travel ban check guide covers.
One r/dubai commenter, in a thread on a residency visa overstay, warned against leaving it to the last minute:
“Whatever you do, don’t leave it all to the airport. The smart gates will flag you automatically and you’ll be standing there sorting it out while your flight boards.”
– r/dubai (8 upvotes)
That is one account, and we found no official page that describes airport payment either way.
What we could not confirm
Several points stay open after our reading, because the official pages we could open do not state them and we submitted no lookups on any form.
- Whether the GDRFA inquiry returns files issued outside Dubai.
- Whether ICP’s smart services site offers its own fine lookup, and what it asks for.
- Any grace period for visitors, and the category table for residents.
- The cost and rules of an exit permit for long overstays.
- How to dispute or reduce a fine.
- Whether fines counted in the relief window were charged after 9 July.
Quick answers on the UAE overstay fine check
How do I do a UAE overstay fine check?
Use the GDRFA Dubai fines inquiry, which u.ae links as the check. Pay through ICP’s violation fine service or GDRFA’s collection service.
How much is the overstay fine per day?
AED 50 a day, per ICP’s fee list and the u.ae page on residence visas. ICP also lists an AED 100 smart services fee.
Can I leave if I owe a fine?
ICP’s terms put payment before the exit or status change. We could not confirm whether the fine can be paid at the airport.
Is there a grace period?
For residents, u.ae mentions up to six months after a permit ends, by category. For visitors it states none. The 2026 relief ended on 9 July.
We read these pages on 17 October 2026 and will re-read them when ICP posts a category table or new fine rules.
