A personal PO Box in Dubai is rented from Emirates Post in three plans: MyBox at AED 300, MyHome at AED 695 and MyHome Instant at AED 995, all VAT inclusive. A registration fee of AED 70 comes on top. You must be a UAE resident aged 18 or over, and the plans page lists an Emirates ID as the only document.
Older guides still quote prices and rules that no longer match. We read Emirates Post’s own pages on 13 October 2026. General information only, not official advice.
| Plan | Price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| MyBox | AED 300 | A physical box at an Emirates Post location, one extra agent for the first year, SMS alerts and an online mail history |
| MyHome | AED 695 | A PO Box address not tied to a location, with mail delivered to your home once a week |
| MyHome Instant | AED 995 | Next-day delivery, capped at 60 deliveries per yearly subscription, plus one extra agent for the first year |
| Extras | AED 70 and AED 50 | AED 70 registration fee, and AED 50 for each additional agent |
PO box in Dubai: the three plans and what they cost
Emirates Post’s plans page lists prices that include VAT. Add the registration fee to MyBox and the total is AED 370 by our arithmetic.
MyBox is the plain box you collect from. The two MyHome plans give you an address that is not tied to a location, and Emirates Post sorts the mail and brings it to the door. All three plans carry a 10% discount on international shipping.
Who can rent one and what you need
The applicant must be a UAE resident and at least 18 years old. Emirates Post lists an Emirates ID as the required document. It says the application takes about two minutes.
- Log in with UAE PASS on the website or in the app, or apply at a branch.
- Pick a plan, fill in the details and pay by card, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay. Cash works only at branches.
- Choose a contract of one, two, three, five or ten years, with optional auto-renewal.
Under the terms, the box becomes your legal address. It cannot be sub-leased, and an individual box cannot be used as a business box.
Rules in the terms that catch people out
The individual terms hold several limits that rival guides skip. They matter for anyone who travels or moves, and a few are easy to miss until a notice arrives.
- Emirates Post can move your box or change its number with 30 days’ notice.
- If the box fills up, the renter gets 15 days from the notice to empty it. After three full boxes in a row, an upgrade is required.
- Renewal has a 30-day grace period. After that, Emirates Post can dispose of the box and the mail inside.
- Upgrades cost the difference. Downgrades are allowed but the difference is not refunded, and cancelling does not refund the rest of the rental.
- Cancelling online can take up to 48 hours, once any outstanding amounts are settled.
A lost key means applying for a new lock at a postal centre and paying for it, and key copies are not allowed. Damage to the box is billed to the renter.
Receiving mail without a box
The UAE has no postcode system, as our Dubai zip code guide explains, and many residents assume a PO Box is the only way to get letters. A December 2025 r/dubai reply said it is not:
“It works fine, and has always worked, as long as the sender writes your phone number on the package or envelope. No phone number = no way to contact you = no delivery.”
– reply in r/dubai, December 2025 (8 upvotes)
The same thread reported a delivery charge of AED 30 plus VAT. Posters in 2026 quote AED 20 to collect. We found no Emirates Post page that lists those fees, so treat them as single accounts.
Where rival guides disagree with Emirates Post
Gulf News reported in 2021 that MyHome cost Dh995 a year and that there were two personal options. Emirates Post now lists three plans, with MyHome at AED 695 and the AED 995 price attached to MyHome Instant.
Another guide says renters can pick six months and a small, medium or large box, and need passport and visa copies. None of that appears on Emirates Post’s pages, which offer one to ten year contracts and name the Emirates ID alone.
What we could not confirm
Several practical points are left open by Emirates Post’s pages, and we found no official answer to any of the five below.
- Whether the price is per year or per contract length. The plans page offers one to ten year contracts, while the terms describe an annual contract that ends on 31 December.
- Whether the AED 70 registration fee is charged again at renewal.
- The fee for collecting or delivering a parcel without a box.
- The fine for renewing late. A 2013 Khaleej Times report said up to Dh100, but the current terms mention only the 30-day grace period.
- Which Dubai branches hold boxes, because we did not read the branch list.
