Qatar is home to a splendid and sprawling park known as Al Rayyan Park. In other words, Al Rayyan Park is described as “Al Bisat Al Akhdar” which is a rendition of the term “Green Carpet”. The space is a generous 130,000 m2 of land blanketed in greenery and is located at the intersection of the New Al Rayyan Road and the Al Shamal Road within the city centre.

Where to Find the Park

Al Rayyan City is the location of the park, while it’s indeed in Doha. If you are coming from the south of Al Rayyan, it is an easy spot to locate. The park can be simply accessed by car via both Al Maidan Street and Al Rayyan Road. The number of free parking spaces is so much that it can accommodate visitors.

The place is not so far away from some well-known places such as Qatar National Library and Education City. The Mall of Qatar is also very close to walking distance. Usually, people travel by car or taxi as public transport is not that developed. Buses M209, R701, and M207 stop about 1-2 kilometers away from the park.

Al Rayyan Park History

Rayyan Park has been a part of the park system of Doha for some time. Rayyan Park went through an extensive facelift and significant facelift in 2015. Ashghal, which is the Public Works Authority of Qatar, along with the Al Rayyan Municipality spent some time to beautify the park. They made it out of the walking paths, added new lighting, made strong & firm fences, and a jogging track.

They made the park friendly to people in wheelchairs after the 2015 renovation. All of the main pathways have ramps and asphalt surfaces. The works took effect on time for the celebrations of Qatar National Day.

Main Features of the Park

The Beautiful Lotus Pond

The lotus pond is the park’s most famous attraction. This still area of water supports various plants and fish such as eels. The small wooden bridge lies across the blue, clear water, and on this bridge are the various benches. Pictures are taken here of the pond that is beautiful naturally.

Water Features

Through the playing field and the rest of the park, there are fountains small rainbows of water. These splash fountains and waterfalls make some calming sounds that help visitors sleep.  Water surges from the fountains that make play more vivid and merry.

Moreover, the main attraction in the park is the buffer walking paths that run all over the park. These are areas of the park where families can rest while their children play under large trees. The place has sallow try-out tools spread around so people who use the park can work out without paying a price.

On the other hand, children can enjoy their favorite swings and other playing equipment that are near the main entrances of the park. The families who would like to partake in barbecues could go and have seats or use the tables on the lawns provided. It is in the open fields that kids get enough running room for playing and games.

There are 2 parks in Al Rayyan, namely Rayyan Family Park 1 and Rayyan Family Park 2, that are much smaller than the main Al Rayyan Park but their family entertainment is almost equal.

Rayyan Family Park 1

This is the old, smaller park of the area. Only some of the basic children’s playground equipment including benches, and open spaces of grass are there. It opens at 5:00 AM and is open up to 12:00 AM. It is a place that is quite often in use by local families.

Rayyan Family Park 2

This newer park was inaugurated in 2004 on Al Atouriya Street. With a size of 8,827 square meters, this park contains various new additions. It includes a children’s play area, and within its confines is a small cafeteria which provides families with snacks and drinks. The park is shaded by numerous date palm trees and brightened with multicolored flower beds which make it lovely. This fun and refreshing park are open from 6:00 AM and close at 11:00 PM every day.

Visiting Hours and Cost

It is absolutely free to visit parks in Al Rayyan. There is no such need for any cash just to be in the green area and enjoy nature.

The main park of Al Rayyan is open for 24 hours every day. Everybody can come in at any time of the day, although the late night is usually quite deserted season.

The family parks have a regular time schedule. Robinsons Orchard Park open from approximately 05:00 AM to midnight, while Family Park 2 opens at 6:00 AM but would be closed by 11:00 PM. Special days may have various hours such as holidays or days when some work needs to be done.

Tips for Visitors

• Early morning and late afternoon are the best moments to visit the park.
• Because drinking faucets are mainly only available for animals, taking water bottles along is a must for visitors. 

Shooting the beautiful scenery around the ponds and the exercise area is a good idea for photo shooting. There is a good time for shooting with the best lighting being during the early morning and the late evening.
