Sharjah parking timings are 8am to midnight in Sharjah city, Kalba, Khorfakkan and Al Dhaid, according to Khaleej Times and Gulf News reports of 24 June 2026, and the longer hours took effect on 1 July. Parking stays free on Fridays and official public holidays, except in zones that charge seven days a week. To pay by phone, text 5566.
On 27 October 2026 we went through the municipality’s parking service pages and eight news reports from the past two years. We did not park, send a test text or open the fines service. The municipal pages give the SMS rules but no hours, so the hours come from the press. This is general information, not official advice.
| Point | Rule | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Paid hours | 8am to midnight in every paid zone | Khaleej Times and Gulf News, 24 June 2026 |
| Free days | Fridays and official public holidays | Same two reports |
| Always paid | Seven-day zones and smart parking yards | Khaleej Times, 17 and 26 February 2026 |

Sharjah parking timings, day by day
Two things decide whether a space costs money: the day and the colour of the sign. Zones with yellow signs follow the free Friday and holiday rule. Zones with blue signs charge every day, Fridays and holidays included. The municipality’s own service pages say nothing about sign colours, so the sign on the street is the final word.
| Where and when | Do you pay? |
|---|---|
| Yellow-sign zone, Saturday to Thursday | Yes, 8am to midnight |
| Yellow-sign zone, Friday | No |
| Yellow-sign zone, official public holiday | No |
| Blue-sign zone, any day | Yes, 8am to midnight, Fridays and holidays included |
| Smart parking yard, any day | Yes, 24 hours, no free hours |
Sunday is a paid day on the rule as reported. Neither paper lists it among the free days, and the exceptions name only Fridays and official holidays. That is the reverse of Dubai, where Parkin lists Sundays as free, as our Dubai parking timings guide explains. A habit learned in Dubai does not carry over the border. Ajman, the next emirate along, charges in two blocks with a free afternoon, as our Ajman parking timing guide explains.
Our UAE public holidays guide lists the official dates and the rules for moving them.
What changed on 1 July 2026
The hours have moved twice in two years, and many guides still print the old ones. Gulf News reported the first step on 27 October 2024.
- Until 31 October 2024: paid from 8am to 10pm in both seven-day zones and regular areas.
- From 1 November 2024: blue-sign seven-day zones moved to midnight.
- From 1 July 2026: yellow-sign zones moved to midnight as well, so one set of hours applies.
The municipality’s stated reason was parking after 10pm. Subscription holders and diners at restaurants and cafes were struggling to find a space. About 124,000 paid spaces are affected, according to both papers. Subscription fees did not rise, and the daily exemption for subscribers went from 14 hours to 16.
One rival guide lists a Friday window of 4pm to 10pm. It appears in none of the reports we found, so we left it out.
Ramadan hours are announced separately. On 17 February 2026 the municipality set 8am to midnight, Saturday to Thursday, for the month, with the same Friday exceptions. We found no Ramadan 2027 notice yet, and our Ramadan 2027 guide tracks the expected dates.
Paying by text to 5566
The parking FAQ on the municipality’s parking site sets out the format. Send the plate source, the plate number and the hours to 5566, for example SHJ 1234 2 for two hours. The source codes are SHJ, DXB, AUH, RAK, AJM, FUJ and UAQ.
You need a UAE number on Etisalat or du. Cars with non-private or GCC plates must register on the site first, which is free. Registration can also be done through the call centre on 993.
| Hours | Machine ticket | Total by text |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | AED 2.00 | AED 2.38 |
| 2 hours | AED 5.00 | AED 5.38 |
| 3 hours | AED 8.00 | AED 8.38 |
| 5 hours | AED 12.00 | AED 12.38 |
Each text carries a fee of 38 fils on top of the ticket value. Post-paid lines are billed on the monthly invoice. Pre-paid lines need enough credit, or no permit is issued.
- A confirmation should arrive within 60 seconds. Keep it until you drive off.
- Ten minutes before the session ends you get a reminder. Replying Y to 5566 buys one more hour, and it has to be sent before the session runs out.
- If an inspector fines a car with a live session, the FAQ says the municipality cancels the fine. The dispute goes through 993.
Khaleej Times and Gulf News both name the Digital Sharjah app as a second payment channel. We did not open it, so we cannot say what it asks for or whether it adds the 38 fils.
The FAQ has two weak spots. It says text parking is offered for “one hour only”, yet its own examples run to five hours. Its footer is dated 2023, which is older than the July change. We take the format and fees as stated and the hours from the 2026 reports.
Subscriptions, smart yards and Aljada
Not every paid space sits on the 5566 system. Three other arrangements show up in the reports.
- Subscriptions. The municipality sells four types: personal or business, each for all areas or two chosen areas. You need an Emirates ID, a valid vehicle registration card and no unpaid fines on the vehicle. A two-area permit cannot be used elsewhere, and a permit does not excuse parking in a reserved bay.
- Smart parking yards. Khaleej Times reported on 26 February 2026 that the municipality runs ten of them, with 2,421 spaces, and plans six more with 1,457. Cameras read the plate at the gate and work out the fee. The yards run around the clock with no free hours. That report gives no tariff.
- Aljada. This community is not on the municipal system. Parkin took over its paid parking on 15 July 2026, and Khaleej Times put the on-street rate at AED 6.30 an hour, all day and night. Off-street areas cost AED 4.20 an hour from 8am to midnight. At The Boulevard, Tiraz and Misk the first two hours are free, then AED 10 an hour. Visitors pay through Parkin’s digital channels, so do not assume a text to 5566 applies there.
The municipality’s service directory lists the fees for each type. We opened the all-area and two-area entries on 27 October 2026.
| Term | All areas, individual | All areas, business | Two areas, individual | Two areas, business |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 months | AED 850 | AED 1,050 | AED 500 | AED 600 |
| 6 months | AED 1,400 | AED 1,750 | AED 900 | AED 1,100 |
| 12 months | AED 2,300 | AED 2,850 | AED 1,700 | AED 2,100 |
The all-area entry also lists an “exceptional subscription” at AED 600, 1,050 and 1,850 for the same three terms, without saying who qualifies. Each entry adds small collection and service-provider fees. One rival guide prints 10-, 20- and 30-day passes and a one-month two-area pass, and none of those appear in the directory. The directory footer is dated 2023, so confirm the current price before paying.
If you are heading to the Sharjah International Book Fair, which runs from 4 to 15 November, Khaleej Times reported on 13 October that free shuttle buses and extra parking are planned. The report names no locations or fees.
Fines, and what drivers report
We could not open a municipal fine schedule. Gulf News reported on 23 January 2026 a fine of AED 150 for parking past the grace period without a valid ticket, payable through the municipality website. One rival guide adds AED 100 for overstaying and AED 1,000 for using a bay reserved for people of determination. Treat those two numbers as unconfirmed. Guides send you to the municipality website or the Digital Sharjah app to look up a fine, but we did not see that screen. The service directory also lists a request to open a vehicle lock, so clamping exists. Its fee entry reads only “According to the value of the financial assets”, which we take to mean the amount owed, and it gives no figure.
The bigger complaint on Reddit is finding a space at all. Under an October 2026 thread on r/Sharjah, one reply with 44 upvotes said:
“Been staying in Sharjah since 11 years and this year has been the worst in terms of traffic, parking, rents, SEWA etc. It’s becoming unlivable.”
– reply in r/Sharjah, October 2026 (44 upvotes)
The original poster, with 50 upvotes, wrote that even subscription holders cannot find a bay. That is one driver’s account. The longer hours were meant to ease that pressure, and no report we found says whether they have.
Questions drivers ask
Is there a grace period in Sharjah?
Yes, 10 minutes, according to Gulf News on 23 January 2026. The paper said the municipality confirmed it in a video on its official Instagram account. Scanning vehicles read the parked plates, return after ten minutes and issue a violation only if no payment shows. Moving to another space starts a new ten minutes. We found it on none of the municipal parking pages, so treat it as a short window for a quick errand. It is not a reason to skip the text.
How do you park all day in Sharjah?
The longest option in the FAQ is five hours per text. We found no official full-day text, and a rival guide says none exists. A subscription or a smart parking yard avoids the repeat texts.
Are Sharjah parking timings different on Sunday?
No. On the rule as reported only Fridays and official holidays are free, so Sunday is paid. Blue-sign zones charge every day.
As of 27 October 2026 the rule is paid until midnight and free on Fridays and holidays, except in blue-sign zones and smart parking yards.
