iPhone Duo Problems UAE: What Buyers Report and What to Do

13 Min Read

iPhone Duo problems UAE buyers report fall into four groups: cracked inner screens, failed face checks in UAE Pass and bank apps, cancelled or delayed orders, and the price.

Khaleej Times reported that the phone went on sale on 23 October 2026. Apple’s UAE store gives you 14 days to return an undamaged phone and a one-year warranty against defects.

On 27 October 2026 we read Apple’s UAE sales terms and support pages, reports from Khaleej Times and The National, and Reddit threads on r/UAE, r/dubai and r/iphone. We did not buy or test a Duo.

Most reports are single owners’ accounts, so treat them as signals, not failure rates. This is general information, not official advice.

The sections below take each in turn.

Cracked screens: what is confirmed and what is not

The National reported on 25 October 2026 that early buyers had posted images of damage around the hinge of the inner display. The images show vertical cracks down the centre, bright lines on the right and some dead pixels.

Apple was reportedly replacing affected phones and planned to send damaged units to its engineers in California, the paper said. Delivery dates and the extent of the problem remain unclear.

Apple then commented. In a statement to 9to5Mac on 26 October 2026, it said it is “aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units”. It told users with display issues to contact AppleCare for a replacement. 9to5Mac added that AppleCare+ is not needed for this problem, and that a handful of the Reddit reports were AI-generated fakes.

The most detailed account comes from Australia. One owner’s phone split along the fold after six hours and fewer than 20 openings, The Mac Observer wrote. Apple had not issued a public statement at that point. Photos from China may show store display units, which are handled far more roughly than a phone in a pocket.

We found no confirmed UAE case in the press or on Reddit. A r/UAE poster asked in October 2026 whether anyone in Dubai had a screen issue, and hoped there were no defective units here. That is a hope, not a finding. So far the cracks are an overseas story.

Apple published a hinge troubleshooting page on 26 October 2026. It lists a hinge that will not open or close fully, unexpected noise, a loose hinge and a bent or broken one. It says there is no software fix for hinge issues. If cleaning and removing third-party cases do not help, the repair is replacing the inner display assembly.

Your rights in the UAE if a Duo fails

The sales terms on Apple’s UAE store set two rules that apply to a Duo bought there.

  • Return: an undamaged product can go back within 14 days of receipt. Call 8000 444 0396 between 10am and 7pm, Sunday to Thursday. Apple then replaces it or refunds the original payment method.
  • Warranty: Apple gives a one-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on any new Apple product.

Two limits matter. The return rule covers purchases from the Apple Store, and a product can be returned only in the country where it was bought. Buyers at other retailers follow that retailer’s policy.

Khaleej Times reported that buyers in Deira were willing to pay a premium of up to Dh2,500 for immediate stock. If you buy from such a seller, ask what happens when the phone is faulty.

Apple’s statement is global, and we found no UAE-specific one. For a crack, Apple’s offer is a replacement through AppleCare, and the warranty above is the fallback.

Apple’s UAE AppleCare page says a separate service fee applies to the Duo’s cover layer. It lists no dirham repair prices for the phone. The Mac Observer put an out-of-warranty inner screen repair at $999 in the US, so get a UAE quote before you pay for cover.

If the hinge feels wrong, Apple’s own page suggests a short routine.

  • Remove any third-party case or screen protector.
  • Check that the hinge holds in every position, and look for dust or particles along it.
  • Clean the displays with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth, with the phone off and unplugged.
  • If nothing changes, contact Apple, and keep the box, receipt and order email.

UAE Pass and bank apps: the snag Gulf buyers raise

Face ID is absent from the Duo. Apple’s tech specs, as summarised by The Mac Observer on 12 September 2026, list Touch ID in the side button as the only biometric method.

The inner front camera is an under-display f/1.8 unit, and the outer front camera is a 12MP unit. Apple has not said whether an app that asks for Face ID by name accepts Touch ID.

Gulf owners say the face check inside apps is the real friction. A Dubai owner wrote on r/iphone in October 2026:

“Facial recognition inside third-party apps is extremely unreliable. I’m based in Dubai, UAE, and I’ve been experiencing this problem with multiple apps: UAE PASS: It took nearly 8 attempts to successfully complete facial verification. ADIB Banking App: Facial verification repeatedly fails or requir…”

A r/UAE thread titled “SOLVED: UAE Pass on iPhone Duo” (26 upvotes) says all three cameras failed until the poster changed distance.

“If UAE Pass face verification keeps failing on your iPhone Duo, this might save you some frustration. I tried every camera: the inner camera, the outer one, and the back camera. Nothing worked.”

Bringing the face very close to the phone fixed it for that poster, much closer than feels right, without fitting the whole face inside the circle.

A second r/UAE poster, who could not activate the ENBD Smart Pass, noted that the cover-screen camera sits in the extreme right corner.

These are owners’ workarounds, not official guidance.

Our reading is that the missing Face ID and the camera positions may explain why the on-screen circle misleads, but we cannot confirm the cause. We found no iPhone Duo note on the UAE Pass support, TDRA or DGOV pages.

If the check will not pass, UAE Pass has an official fallback. DGOV says users can verify with facial recognition or visit the nearest UAE Pass kiosk with their Emirates ID. A valid ID is needed either way, as our Emirates ID renewal guide explains.

Pre-orders, stock and price

Khaleej Times reported on 22 October that pre-orders opened on 16 October 2026 and sales began on 23 October. It reported prices of Dh8,499 for 256GB, Dh9,349 for 512GB, Dh11,049 for 1TB and Dh13,599 for 2TB.

The paper reported the iPhone 18 Pro Max at Dh5,499 in the UAE, and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 at about Dh3,000 less than the Duo.

Jumbo said its stock sold out within hours of the launch, and Eros Group said certain variants may be unavailable until the next allocation, with the 512GB model drawing the most interest. Delivery dates for some customers slipped into next year, The National added.

One r/dubai post, with 120 upvotes, describes an Amazon UAE pre-order.

“I pre-ordered the iPhone Duo from Amazon UAE last week and was expecting it to be delivered today, Friday, October 23. The delivery driver arrived at my door with the package and attempted to complete the delivery using the OTP. However, the system kept returning an error.”

According to the poster, the order page then showed the order as cancelled. We do not know how it ended, and it is one account.

For Apple Store orders, the UAE terms say a confirmation email is not acceptance. Apple accepts an order once it is prepared for shipping, and can change available quantities until then. An unshipped pre-order is therefore not a guaranteed phone.

Questions Gulf buyers ask

Which iPhone Duo problems UAE owners have reported so far?

Two kinds so far. UAE owners report failed face checks in UAE Pass and banking apps, and one reports a cancelled pre-order. We found no confirmed UAE screen crack, though cracks are reported abroad and the sample is small.

Will Apple replace a cracked iPhone Duo screen in the UAE?

Apple told 9to5Mac that users with display issues should contact AppleCare for a replacement, and that AppleCare+ is not needed. We found no UAE-specific wording, so ask Apple UAE to confirm in writing.

Can I return an iPhone Duo in the UAE?

From Apple’s online store, yes, within 14 days of receipt if the phone is undamaged. Other sellers set their own terms, so ask before paying.

Why does UAE Pass fail on the iPhone Duo?

Nobody has given an official reason. Owners say moving the face much closer helped. The Duo has no Face ID, and UAE Pass offers a kiosk fallback with an Emirates ID.

How much is the iPhone Duo in the UAE?

Khaleej Times reported Dh8,499 for 256GB up to Dh13,599 for 2TB on 22 October 2026.

As of 27 October 2026 the UAE picture is simple: screen cracks are an overseas report that Apple acknowledges, the practical snags are app face checks and orders, and the Apple Store gives 14 days to return and a year of warranty.
