Is Roblox banned in UAE? No. The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) and Roblox announced on 4 September 2025 that in-game chat would be switched off, and Roblox said in April 2026 that it was still off. The blocks reported in August 2025 were in Kuwait and Qatar.

Is Roblox banned in UAE? What the regulator and Roblox said

The UAE did not block Roblox. Khaleej Times reported on 4 September 2025 that TDRA and Roblox issued a joint statement, and that users would temporarily be unable to chat in the game.

The statement covered certain communication features, including in-platform chat and games with chat functions. It also promised stronger moderation of Arabic content, better safety features and parental controls, and it urged parents to watch their children’s online activity.

In April 2026 Roblox’s chief safety officer, Matt Kaufman, said the company turned chat off “to give ourselves time to improve our Arabic safety technology”. He said Roblox intends to switch chat back on as those systems improve, and gave no date. By our reading, “banned” in the UAE means chat is off, not that the app is blocked, so you should expect the game to open with chat missing.

Saudi Arabia: chat off and 300,000 games blocked

Saudi Arabia went further on content. Saudi Gazette reported on 4 September 2025 that Roblox met requirements set by the General Authority for Media Regulation (GAMR), including blocking more than 300,000 games in a “Social Gathering Games” category.

The same measures switched off voice and text chat for users in the kingdom until better tools for monitoring Arabic content exist. On 15 June 2026 PocketGamer.biz quoted Roblox’s regional general manager, Mohamed El Sheakh, saying chat “will remain off in the majority of the Middle East”. He gave no timeline for Saudi Arabia.

Where Roblox was blocked and where it came back

The outright blocks were in the neighbouring states, and the picture there is uneven. Dates matter, because several headlines from August 2025 still circulate as if they were current.

• Kuwait: the communications regulator CITRA blocked Roblox on 21 August 2025 after complaints from parents and agencies. Gulf Daily News reported on 29 October 2025 that CITRA lifted the ban after an agreement requiring content changes, complete disabling of chat and added parental protections. The National said in April 2026 that Kuwait had restored access.
• Qatar: The Peninsula reported on 13 August 2025 that Roblox was no longer accessible, based on user complaints. It said no government body had confirmed this. We found no 2026 report either way.
• Oman: The National places Oman’s ban before August 2025. We found no current statement from the regulator.
• Bahrain: on 21 May 2026 Daily Tribune reported that the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority told Parliament’s Services Committee that text and voice chat tools had been removed across the Gulf. The committee still approved a proposal to ask the government to ban Roblox. We saw no report that it became policy.

Where the headlines disagree

“Banned” covers three different things in these reports: a network block, a switched-off chat feature, and a parliamentary proposal. Mixing them produces most of the contradictory claims.

• A VPN seller’s page says Roblox is blocked in the UAE. The TDRA statement says chat was disabled, and The National says the UAE stayed available.
• Khaleej Times on 25 August 2025 counted Kuwait among the countries that banned Roblox. The same country is listed as restored in April 2026.
• Search headlines say Qatar “banned” the game, while the only report we read says the block was unconfirmed by any government body.

What we could not confirm

Several points stay open for you after our reading, because we ran no test from inside these countries and found no regional status page from Roblox itself.

• Qatar’s current status, and whether any Qatari authority has commented.
• Oman’s current status, and which body confirmed the earlier block.
• Whether Bahrain’s committee proposal became government policy.
• Any 2026 statement from TDRA or GAMR.
• Whether chat is switched on anywhere in the Gulf today, and when it will return.

Roblox chat in the Gulf: when it returns

Roblox gave no date. Its chief safety officer said in April 2026 that it intends to restore chat as its Arabic safety systems improve.

Roblox in Qatar: still blocked or not

We could not confirm it either way. The only report we read, from 13 August 2025, relied on user complaints and no official confirmation.

Roblox in Saudi Arabia: banned or not

No outright ban was reported. Chat is off and more than 300,000 games in one category were blocked, per Saudi Gazette in September 2025.
