Dubai Fountain show status today
As of Wednesday 23 September, the Dubai Fountain is closed for the mourning period. No performance has been scheduled. The mourning runs from Monday 21 September to Wednesday 30 September, with flags at half-mast across the emirate, per the Dubai Media Office announcement reported by Khaleej Times.
What’s On Dubai published the suspension as lasting until further notice on 22 September. No date for resumption has been revealed since.
We checked Emaar’s own channels on 23 September and found no restart time posted.
The announcements worth keeping separate
Two different things are circulating about this pause, and they carry different weight. One is the mourning period, which has fixed published dates. The other is the fountain’s restart, which does not.

The Dubai Mall representative who spoke to The National on 22 September said the attraction would not operate while the mourning lasts. Nothing in that statement mentions upkeep, repairs or a Phase Two closure.
How the shows normally run
The Dubai Fountain stages a show every 30 minutes from 6pm to 11pm at Burj Lake, the 12-hectare water body between Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. Afternoon performances run at 1pm and 1.30pm from Saturday to Thursday, and at 2pm and 2.30pm on Fridays. Those timings come from The National’s report on the 1 October 2025 reopening.
The jets reach 152 metres, and the display runs on 6,600 lights with 25 colour projectors. Emaar opened the attraction in 2009, and the design came from WET, the firm behind the Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas.
That schedule is your baseline once the shows return. Nothing published this week suggests the timings themselves will change. The pause belongs to the mourning period, not to a revision of the programme.

What the mourning period changes in Dubai
Mourning periods in the UAE suspend live entertainment rather than public life. Concerts and ticketed shows may be cancelled or moved. Radio stations switch to prayers or Quran recitation, and malls often play quieter music.
The clearest example this week is the Dubai K-Fest opening concert, which was due on Friday 25 September at Festival Bay, Dubai Festival City Mall. Organisers postponed it after the mourning was declared, and new dates have not been shared.
Government work and schools are a separate decision. No closure of government offices had been reported by 22 September, and private businesses, hotels and restaurants are operating as usual.
What stays open, and what you can still plan
Dubai Mall, hotels, restaurants and the Dubai Metro are all running. No transport changes have been announced for the mourning period. If the waterfront is the quiet part of the evening, a smaller community mall such as Grand City Mall in Al Quoz is open from 7am to midnight and has its own Metro route.
Expect a quieter stretch of waterfront around Burj Lake in the evenings, because the crowd that gathers for each show is what usually fills it. If you have a brunch, club night or ticketed event booked, confirm it with the venue directly. Entertainment programming is where the changes land.
Rail is the one transport topic worth tracking separately, with the Etihad Rail stations already open and the Dubai to Abu Dhabi passenger service due to start on 30 September.
The funeral prayer for Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was held at 1pm on Tuesday 22 September at Za’abeel Grand Mosque, and condolences are being received at Zabeel Majlis over three days. Traffic around Za’abeel is heavier around those gatherings.
When the shows are expected back
The earliest supportable date for a return is Thursday 1 October 2026, the first day after the mourning period ends. No operator or Dubai Media Office statement has set a restart time.
Treat 1 October as an expectation drawn from the mourning dates, not an announcement. Two things can move it. A second renovation phase is planned for the second quarter of 2026 and its closure dates were never confirmed, so a maintenance window could sit close to this one. We have also seen the fountain pause for mourning before without a published restart schedule.
Planning around the fountain is simple enough. Treat 30 September as the end of the known suspension, then check the Dubai Mall or Emaar channel on 1 October before you travel for an evening show.
